About the Webmaster

My name is Oren and I am the webmaster for this site. This site contains over 3000 transit photos from subway and bus systems in the United States, Canada, and Europe. It also contains over 500 "non-transit" photos that I have taken around the areas where I live and have traveled. Here are some interesting things to know about me:

I currently split my time between the Washington, DC area and Ithaca, NY.

I organized the SubTalk DC trip that took place on April 21, 2001. (You can read the trip report here.) I also organized the April 5, 2003 meeting and helped to organize the SubTalk DC Scavenger Hunt on June 19, 2004.

I have been on the Washington, DC MetroRail, New York City Subway, Miami Metrorail, BART, Toronto Transit Commission, Vancouver SkyTrain, Glasgow Underground, Rome Metro, and Haifa Carmelit systems in their entirety and been on significant portions of some of the other systems listed above.

Out of these systems, my favorite two subway systems are the Washington Metro and the CTA.

I have also been on a variety of Amtrak routes (Northeast Corridor, Downeaster, Capitol Limited, Empire Builder, and Cascades), the Alaska Railroad, the national rail services in England, Scotland, Germany, Italy, France, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Spain, and Israel, and also the Eurostar and Thalys high speed trains.

I have an extensive collection of maps and schedules. The oldest map is a 1964 World's Fair Map. My largest map is a NYC Subway map which measures 30 square feet. My collection also includes many full size WMATA maps, including most versions of the July 4th map, and a full size London Underground map. I also acquired materials from the New York City Transit Authority that were being sold from the Redbird cars. I own one side sign box, both front sign boxes, two grab bars, and a number plate.

The longest amount of time I have ever spent riding a combinations of subways and buses in a single day is 12 hours (April 5, 2004). I have also spent several spants of 8 hours or more on various systems. I have been to every station on the Washington, DC, Toronto, Rome, Glasgow, Miami, Vancouver, and Haifa systems in a single day.

In addition to running this website and my interest in public transportation, I am an avid bicyclist, follow both the Baltimore Orioles and Washington Nationals closely, watch Jeopardy! nearly every evening, and enjoy going to see musical theater and other drama productions.

If you have any additional questions, feel free to e-mail me at [email protected]. Enjoy the site!
