Amtrak Guest Rewards is the equivelant of a frequent flyer program. When you purchase your ticket, you provide your number and you then receive 2 points for every 1 dollar you spend on Amtrak travel.  Amtrak Guest Rewards membership card |  This certificate was sent out to frequent travelers in the fall of 2001. It offers one free drink in the cafe car or dining car. It seemed that "frequent" meant three trips in a rather large span, because that is all I did to get one. |  This certificate was sent out to frequent travelers in the spring of 2002. It offers one admission to a first class lounge or one free class upgrade (coach to business or business to first). |
When you give your ticket to the conductor, you recieve a seat check to indicate that your ticket was collected. In the Northeast Corridor, there are 5 different color seat checks, to prevent people from walking on the train with a used seat check instead of a ticket. The train crew uses a different color on each train each day. Some seat checks do not have station names although they are colored. Each train crew has its own system for punching the seat checks, so that you don't ride beyond your destination. | ||

 I, unfortunately, asked for and got one of these travel certificates due to an absolutely horrific trip with Amtrak. Hopefully, this is the only place you will ever see one. | ||
