Miami Metromover
The original segment of the Metromover, the 1.9 mile downtown loop, opened on April 17, 1986. The Metromover system was further expanded north to Omni and south to Brickell on May 26, 1994. The Metromover service is provided by 29 automated, electric powered and rubber tired cars, operating on an elevated guideway above the streets of downtown Miami. The Metromover is now fare free and operates every 90 seconds during rush hour and every 3 minutes at most other times of the day, connecting Omni, Brickell, and downtown, with stops in proximity to major destinations such as American Airlines Arena, Bayside Marketplace, the Miami Arena, Miami-Dade College, the James L. Knight Center, the Miami-Dade County School Board, The Miami Herald, and the Stephen P. Clark and Cultural centers. Additionally, there are transfers to Metrorail at the Government Center and Brickell Stations, and many bus routes connect to Metromover at Omni. The Metromover Maintenance Facility is located between the Government Center, Miami Avenue, and Third Street Stations, at the intersection of SW 1st Street and SW 1st Avenue.
