Jerusalem Light Rail: French Hill Depot
Jerusalem's first light rail line is currently under construction. At the present time (October 2009), it is expected that the line will be complete and operational in the spring of 2011. Currently, one line, designated as Line 1, is under construction; other lines are in the planning stages. Line 1 will operate along Herzl Boulevard in the southwestern part of the city from Mount Herzl and Yad Vashem towards the Central Bus Station. It will then cross the Chords Bridge and proceed down Derech Yafo (the Jaffa Road) towards the northwest corner of the Old City. It will then head eastward along the Old City Wall, past the Damascus Gate, before turning north along Hayim Barlev Boulevard towards Pisgat Ze'ev. Although the line is not scheduled to open until 2011, the Alstom Citadis 302 LRVs that will operate on the line were delivered to the Port of Ashdod starting in late 2007 and are currently stored at the French Hill Depot site. These vehicles have been designed to meet Israeli security standards.
