Like most other European countries, Italian cities are well served by public transportation systems. Any city of modest size has a bus system. Until recently, all local buses in every city were painted orange, and long distance buses were painted blue. While the latter is still too, individual operating authorities have started to adopt their own paint schemes. Additionally, many medium cities have tram lines, as do most larger cities. Rome, Naples, Turin, and Milan all have underground subway systems. Rome, Turin, and Padova are just some of the cities that have trams. Additionally, intercity rail service is provided by Trenitalia.
