National Rail

The National Rail system in Britian is one of the easiest ways to get around the country. This is no surprise, considering the first railways were built in England. The railroads have gone from being privately owned to nationalization after World War II, and have recently been privatized again. Currently, there are 26 private rail operators who operate the trains and Railtrack owns and maintains the tracks, signals, and stations. More on the history of the British railroad system can be found in the history written by the webmaster. The pictures on this website are organized by class.
